CASE STUDY DAILY UC DAVIS · CAMPUS MEDIA BRAND

Zero to 1.2M views in thirty days.

A 30,000-person campus with its news scattered across group chats. I built the page that consolidated it — brand, format, growth and partnerships — then sold local businesses a channel to reach it.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Demand with nowhere to go.

Students were hunting campus news, events and food across a dozen group chats. The pages that existed posted irregularly, with no recognizable voice and no reason to follow one over another.

Local businesses had the mirror-image problem: a campus full of customers and no trusted student channel to buy. One gap, two paying sides.

BRAND IDENTITY

Recognizable in a feed, at thumbnail size.

A wordmark, one typeface, and a fixed palette — built so a student scrolling fast knows the post is ours before they read a word. Consistency was the whole strategy: the same shape every time is what turns a page into a habit.

CONTENT STRATEGY

Three pillars, one repeatable format.

01
Campus news
What's actually happening this week — the reason people check the page instead of scrolling past it.
02
Food & places
The highest-saving content on the page, and the format local businesses could slot straight into.
03
Student life
The relatable posts that travel past our own followers and bring new ones back with them.

GROWTH & PERFORMANCE

1.2M in the first month. 3.3M by the ninetieth day.

Growth and performance — Instagram insights
3.3M
views across the first 90 days at scale, with 608K accounts reached — up 53%.
57.8%
of views came from non-followers — the page kept finding new people rather than recycling the same ones.
98%
click rate on the link hub — attention that actually moved somewhere.
PARTNERSHIPS & REVENUE

Then I sold the channel I'd built.

20+ business collaborations sourced and delivered — local shops, campus organizations, and national brand ambassadorships — with the promotion built inside the existing format instead of bolted onto it.

CAMPAIGN HIGHLIGHT · THE ASUCD GIVEAWAY

COMMUNITY RESPONSE

Students started treating it as the source.

Unprompted messages asking us to post things, correct things, and cover things — the point at which a page stops being an account and starts being infrastructure students rely on.

WHAT THIS PROVES

Five things a hiring manager can take from this.

I can start from nothing
1.2M views in 30 days with no existing audience, no budget, and no team to inherit.
I build systems, not posts
Three pillars and one repeatable format — the reason output stayed consistent instead of spiking once.
I read the right metrics
Non-follower reach and click rate over raw views — the numbers that predict growth rather than flatter it.
I can sell it afterwards
20+ business collaborations sourced and delivered, with promotion built inside the format that already worked.
And it wasn't luck
This is the second brand I grew past a million views. The playbook transferred, which is the whole point.
